I spent today working at The Festival of Trees event at the Western Fairgrounds. If you haven't heard of this event before, it is an initiative of the Ontario Library Association (OLA) that offers eight reading programs to encourage a love of reading for all ages. Each program is named after a tree to make up a Forest that celebrates Canadian books, authors, illustrators and publishers.
The Festival of Trees is an award ceremony for the school aged program. There were also lots of fun activities (run by volunteers, Library and OLA staff) and workshops put on by the authors and illustrators. It was such a fun day and amazing to be around so many kids excited about books!
This book Seconds by Sylvia Taekema, was nominated in the Silver Birch Express program. I spent some of the day helping with her book signing session and talking to some very enthusiastic kids. Definitely on my to-read list!
