family movies

Friday nights is usually our family movie night. This past week we choose Tim Burtons latest film, Frankenweenie. It is about a young boy who does a science experiment to bring his beloved dog, Sparky, back to life after he is tragically hit by a car.  The movie is filmed in black and white and the characters look like they stepped out of the Addams Family movie. Needless to say our kids lasted about twenty minutes before one disappeared and the other was burrowed under a blanket. So, we switched to Netflix in a hasty attempt to save the night, and we unexpectantly stumbled upon this gem of a film - Eleanor's Secret by french director Dominique Monfrey. The version we watched was in English (with some French text) but the french trailer portrays the film in a more accurate way then the english version. It is a heartwarming and magical story about a boy who struggles to read, an inherited Villa and a library full of inhabited fairy tales that need a protector.  Our kids were on the edge of the couch completely engrossed in the story. Check out the trailer...
